Eleanor Seeley - Biography |
Born
in Wisconsin in 1941, Eleanor's mother was the strongest influence
in her early life, offering challenges to create, repair, build, design,
and explore materials and processes…anything was possible. She
offered no mention of patterns or how to make something, just the admonition
and freedom to explore. Given this free hand to learn, her artistic
expression focused in variety of media. Eleanor eventually went on
to complete a Masters degree in Art Education at the University of
Wisconsin, and to teach for many years.
Upon turning sixty, and a lifetime of making art–Eleanor turned seriously to the task of creating sculpture. Her passion for art and her love for dance combined, as she began her "Women" Series. Eleanor studied anatomy, worked with models, and continuously sculpted until there was a mature nature to her renditions As Eleanor worked – an affinity with the Renaissance came the to the foreground, through studies of Michelangelo, Bernini, Artemesia Genteleschi and Carravagio, all remarkable artists with extraordinary abilities to define the human form. Rounding out her studies with the turn of the century artists, such as Maillol, Rodin and Gaston Lachaise.
